All hail to the princess
Our sweet, sweet Madelyn Alexandria Tucker. The General, little princess, smiley, and my favorite nickname.....little girl ☺️. After having The Great I thought that I could never raise a little girl and I had no desire until Madelyn came into our lives. She is such a sweet baby but don't get it twisted she can TURN UP when necessary. So where do I begin, what story will I tell? After thinking long and hard I believe a recap of a typical day would give a better picture of Ms. Madelyn.
It is 6:30 on Tuesday and The General's internal alarm clock is going off with a vengeance. She chooses to sleep in the rock n play because it is cozy and warm versus her crib that is spacious yet cold. We have tried numerous times to put her down in the crib but as soon as her head hits the mattress her crib detector goes off and her eyes pop open. Now that she can roll over we have tried putting her down on her stomach......head immediately pops up! So for my sanity and her restful sleep we have given in to the rock n play. Back to the internal alarm clock..... I hear her on the monitor stirring. Unlike The Guardian who goes from 0 to 100 in 3 seconds, The General gives us about 4 seconds before she turns it out so I take my time walking to the room.
I arrive in the room just in time because her blanket wasn't going to last much longer. She was holding onto her blanket with a vice grip and chewing the life out of the pink threads. She hasn't noticed me standing over her so I just watch her attack the poor, innocent blanket. At this point she has transformed to the General because she feverishly begins to question the blanket....."where is that woman with my food"?
She turns her head ever so slightly and she sees me and immediately drops the blanket and says "how long have you been standing there?" Before I can get out an answer she says "it does doesn't matter, pick me up lets get this day started". As I pick her up she flashes her award winning smile then glances over to see the clothes that I have chosen for today. She pops her head back around and gives me a head bob for approval. I start doing my happy dance on the inside because yesterday I was reprimanded for the clothing combination that I chose for her to wear. Apparently the new fashion trend is colorful leggings not dark blue jeggings.
As we round the corner in my bedroom she hears the husband snoring and she decides to scream to announce her arrival and to counter his noise. Her scream startles the husband and he pops up and there she goes again with that award winning smile.
She looks at me and says "how do you get your beauty rest with all that noise". "Now I understand why you have bags under your eyes".
"The bags come from a lack of sleep because someone has a ferocious appetite".
The General replies, "well I can't help it that milk only last two hours. I know you don't want me to starve".
"Starve Madleyn....why so dramatic". At this point she doesn't answer she just gives me another smile with her signature coo/squeal.
"Mom, she exclaims, that was delicious! I see that you have added some variety to your diet, about time".
"I'm glad you approve Maddawee (another nickname), now let's get dressed".
At this point Ethan is now awake and has rolled over in the crib. They make eye contact and I place her beside him to play while I grab their diapers. When I come back to the crib they are holding hands facing each other and having a conversation. I faintly hear " I tried to warn you" from The General.
"Why were you trying to warn him"?
"Oh nothing", she says and they both get eerily quiet and just stare at me with those big brown eyes. I can already tell this twin intuition/code is going to be tough to interpret.
Finally everyone is dressed and strapped in their car seats and we are headed to daycare. Once we arrive Mrs. Tiffany comes out to help me unload the crew. The General has now transformed into a doll baby and begins to coo and blow spit bubbles. As I give her a kiss goodbye she whispers "make sure you eat well today, I will be expecting a delicious and hearty dinner". I give her this look 😒 and I'm out the door.
When I arrive to pick them up Madelyn is reclining in Mrs. Tiffany's arms. We communicate via eye contact.
"How long have you been in this position?"
"I don't think it matters, she replies, I'm comfortable and that's all that matters. I'm fed, loved and adored...life is good".
"Oh brother, let's round up your brothers and go home".
As usual they fall asleep on the ride home but as soon as the vehicle comes to a stop her eyes pop open.
"Madelyn I just need 30 minutes to get dinner ready. Can you just close your eyes or just hang tight".
"Silly mama, pick me up so we can start dinner".
With my sous chef in tow we get dinner going and she reminds me not to get heavy handed with the paprika. According to her too much smoky flavor is over powering and takes away from the flavor palette of the meal.
Throughout the meal prep we discuss her day and how she feels like she is ready for table food.
"No Madelyn your stomach isn't ready and you are just starting to roll over. We will discuss this when you are sitting up on your own".
She replied, "I will just ask daddy, he will give in.....he's weak when it comes to me.....I melt his heart".
"Yeah but I make your food".
"Touché. I guess you win this battle for now".
While The Great and I finish up dinner, Madelyn nestles head her into my neck and falls soundly asleep. The husband comes and grabs her and places her in the rock n play. It's rare that we get to eat dinner without at least one of the twins being awake but tonight they have decided to take a late evening nap. I immediately think that I'm going to regret this later and right on cue The General flashes a gummy smile while she is asleep.
While patiently waiting for ME to wake up I revisit their morning conversation. Why would she say "I tried to warn you". Her eyes pop open as if she knew I was thinking about her.
"Still thinking about this morning"?
"Yes what were you two talking about".
She grins and let's out a long coo, "Nothing just twins stuff".
"But it involved me"!
"Did it"?
"Yes"!
"It's ok mom we will discuss it later plus I'm only awake long enough for you to give me a bath".
"I will find out eventually but until then let's get you cleaned up".
"Thanks mom you're the best".
"You're welcome baby come on let's get ready for bed".
Once everyone is all cleaned up we gather in their room to lie down for the night. After kisses and prayers I leave the room. As I turn off the light I hear Ethan say "She bought it"?
Madelyn replies "of course she did they don't call me The General for nothing".
I stand outside their room for ten minutes trying to digest what just happened. The husband walks past, shakes his head and says "You will never figure it out".
Sigh.
